This Privacy Policy explains how Mode (“Mode”, “we”, “us”) collects, uses, and protects your information when you use our website and service. Mode is operated by a sole trader based in Australia. We handle personal information in line with the Australian Privacy Principles under the Privacy Act 1988 (Cth).
By using Mode, you agree to this policy. If you don’t agree, please don’t use the service.
Who can use Mode
Mode is strictly for adults aged 18 and over. We do not knowingly collect information from anyone under 18. If we learn that we have collected information from a minor, we will delete it.
What we collect
- Your email address, which you provide to sign in (we use passwordless “magic link” login).
- Your conversations with AI companions — the messages you send and the responses generated — so we can show your history and provide the service.
- Usage information, such as how many messages you send each day (used to apply daily limits) and basic product events.
- Early-access form responses, if you fill them in (e.g. which modes interest you).
- Payment information if you subscribe — handled by Stripe. We do not store your card details; we only keep a customer reference and your subscription status.
- Basic analytics, such as page views and general location (country/region) and device type, collected in a privacy-friendly way without tracking cookies.
How we use it
- To provide and operate the service, including your companions and conversation history.
- To apply fair daily usage limits and manage subscriptions.
- To improve Mode and understand which features people use.
- To keep the service safe and enforce our terms.
- To contact you about your account or important changes.
AI processing
Your messages to companions are sent to our AI provider (Anthropic) to generate responses. We send the content of your conversation for this purpose. We do not sell your conversations, and we don’t use them to train our own models. Please don’t share highly sensitive personal information (such as financial, health, or government identifiers) in conversations.
Who we share it with
We share information only with service providers who help us run Mode, including: Supabase (database and authentication), Anthropic (AI responses), Stripe (payments), Vercel (hosting and analytics), and our email provider (sign-in emails). We may disclose information if required by law. We do not sell your personal information.
Where your data is stored
Our database is hosted in Australia. Some service providers (such as our AI, payment, and hosting partners) may process data overseas. Where that happens, we rely on those providers’ own safeguards.
How long we keep it
We keep your information for as long as your account is active. If you ask us to delete your account, we will delete your personal information and conversations, except where we need to keep limited records (for example, payment records we’re legally required to retain).
Your choices and rights
You can request access to the personal information we hold about you, ask us to correct it, or ask us to delete your account and data. To make a request, contact us at the email below. You can also stop using Mode and request deletion at any time.
Security
We take reasonable steps to protect your information, including access controls and encryption in transit. No system is perfectly secure, but we work to keep your data safe.
Changes to this policy
We may update this policy from time to time. If we make significant changes, we’ll update the date at the top and, where appropriate, let you know.
